Name the work, not just the title

Job titles vary across companies. Describe the problems you know how to solve and the work you want to do. If you manage campaigns, build websites or support customers, say that plainly. Add the tools or industries that matter to your next role.

Give examples people can understand

A list of skills is a start. A short example gives those skills context. Explain what you handled, who you helped and what improved. Use numbers when you have them, and keep the description accurate.

Share the practical details

Location, remote or on-site preferences, availability and the type of work you want help narrow the conversation. Full-time roles, part-time work, contract projects and internships require different introductions.

Be clear about what you’re exploring

You do not have to have every detail settled. You can be open to a new industry, interested in learning a skill or returning to work. Explain what you know about your direction and what you would like help figuring out.

Keep your profile current

When your availability, interests or experience change, the information people use to connect you should change too. Start with your current situation and the next step you want to take. A profile is a starting point for a conversation, not a guarantee of a job.

Start with the connection you need.
